What to do on a rainy day....

I often have people ask me what I do with the dogs on a crappy, rainy day such as this? Neither I nor the dogs want to be outside for any length of time, and even though I make sure they get out at regular intervals, no one wants to stay.

So, we play inside. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a HUGE believer in using your dogs' brains. I think they need it to be happy, well rounded citizens. So, I play games with them, and I teach them tricks, and I practice even just basic commands. 10 minutes of brain work = 1 hour of physical exercise, in just settling the dog, and making them calm and relaxed. The mental exertion totally tuckers them out!
So, even when your dog comes for daycare, and it is completely rotten outside, you can relax, knowing your doggy will still come home tuckered and happy:-)

Shares for this week and last....

I have fallen behind in my blog posts again. The summer dog boarding crazies are almost over... most of the summer dogs go home this week. Then I can relax for about five minutes, because then I have to start getting ready to teach classes! I am currently looking for an indoor facility to do classes in all winter, so we don't all freeze to death.

Shares are going well. They seem to get yummier as time goes on. I have such huge plans for next year.... I already wish I could get started! We have to get through the winter first, though, and I will be busy, busy, busy expanding the gardens so I can do way more shares next year, as well as get to some of the farmers' markets in the area.

I have been working on getting Emily Larlham and Pamela Johnson up here from San Diego for a 2 day freestyle workshop. These ladies are AMAZING. What they can do with their dogs just blows me away! I am aiming to have the workshop in May, 2011. I am including a youtube video of a few things Emily has done with 2 of her dogs. The little guy, Tug, she's only had for a few months. BLOWS ME AWAY! I am so excited to have them up here! I will be putting up video's every so often... stay tuned!!

And on the Doggy side of things....

Some updates on up and coming things happening in the doggy world!

This fall, I will be offering classes in CARO Rally Obedience. It's a fun sport, and can be practiced by anyone, anywhere, with any type of dog - both mixed breeds and purebreds can join in. I am working hard on honing Reckless' skills as a demo dog, and will be working more with Kybosh, so they can help show us the ropes.

Both puppy classes and Relationship building classes will be starting up this Sept again - along with a new class. I'm calling it the Recall Class. The biggest complaint my dog boarding customers have is that their dogs won't come when called. I am doing a four week, intensive course on how to get your dog to come in any circumstance, with any distractions. This is the one command that can save your dogs' life, and I can't stress enough how important it is! The class will be fun, upbeat and positive... all things you need to build a solid recall on your dog. Watch for details!
